Counselor - Babith Garner
Vision: Students achieve academic and personal excellence and passionately pursue post-secondary opportunities to thrive in a global community.
Mission: Keller ISD counselors will provide exceptional opportunities through the intentional delivery of a comprehensive school counseling program.
Hello! I am Mrs. Garner. 2024-2025 marks my 17th year as an elementary school counselor and I was a teacher for six years prior to that. As a school counselor, my primary responsibility is to promote the academic, personal, and social development of all students. I also offer support to staff, families, and the community. I meet with students individually and in small groups, I conduct monthly guidance lessons in all of the classrooms, and I collaborate with parents and our teachers and consult with community organizations to benefit and meet the needs of all PGE students and families. Any student can request to meet with me, or they can be referred by a teacher, administrator, or parent.
In addition to those responsibilities, I organize our annual Drug Free Awareness "Red Ribbon Week," Career Day, and our Snack Bag program that provides snacks to some of our students weekly. I am also the primary person responsible for our student leadership group for 4th graders called the "Junior Ments."
This year, Keller ISD has teamed up with the Alliance for Children who will be coming to our school to deliver a few of the guidance lessons. Below are the topics that will be covered each month in the classrooms for guidance lessons:
September-Intrapersonal Effectiveness (Intrapersonal skills are a type of soft skill that involves self-awareness. This includes an awareness of your goals, emotions and thoughts.)
October-Personal Health and Safety
November-Interpersonal Effectiveness (the ability to interact with others in a way that helps build and maintain positive relationships)
December-Alliance for Children will be teaching about Internet Safety
January-Interpersonal Effectiveness
February-Alliance for Children will be teaching about Mental Health and Coping Skills (Prek will not receive this lesson. They will have a lesson about kindness instead.)
March-Post Secondary Planning & Career Readiness
April-Alliance for Children will be doing a lesson called "P.S. It's My Body." They will teach about "welcome" and "unwelcome" touches, how to say no and to get away from situations when needed, and to identify who trusted adults are that they can talk with if they ever receive "unwelcome" touch. These lessons are age appropriate for whatever grade they are in.
May-We will have a school wide Career Day that will touch more on Post Secondary Planning & Career Readiness
